Should a Book Stay ‘Of the Era’, or Should it Get an Update?

This has famously been the case with Judy Blume for a while. Some argue it gives the updated books new life, but to some it’s become a negative distraction.

I HATE this. Books are supposed to teach us about the time they were written and/or set. How else will girls appreciate sticky sanitary pads?
Do we update Jane Austen so the Bennett sisters arrive to balls via car rather than horse-drawn carriage?!?
