5 Books I’m Taking Out East
Summer road trip time.
Soon, we’re packing up and heading out East for a bit. Here are five books I bringing (and why):

1. Adventure Comics: Leviathan by Jason Shiga
I talked about this one in my summer 2022 preview a couple weeks back. This “choose your own adventure” style graphic novel is one I’ve been saving to read at the perfect time.
2. The Race of the Century: The Battle to Break the Four-Minute Mile by Neal Bascomb
A great nonfiction writer tackling a topic that is interesting to me: the race to break the four-minute mile barrier in track. This is one of the all-time legendary athletic feats, and I’m looking forward to learning more about it.
3. Expedition: Backyard by Rosemary Ross, illustrated by Binglin Hu
A comic that blends fiction with nature nonfiction, this one jumped out to me immediately.
4. Family of Liars by E. Lockhart
I rarely read YA, but a few years back I read We Were Liars (I had heard so many people talking about it) and I couldn’t put it down. So I’m all in for this prequel that again follows the wealthy (and tragic) Sinclair family.
5. The Aquanaut by Dan Santat
I’ve been waiting to read Dan Santat’s triumphant return to the graphic novel world for a while now. I can’t wait to kick back and enjoy this one.
