A Summer 2022 Newbery/Caldecott Check In
Every time I make one of these posts (that look at the Mock Newbery and Caldecott lists on Goodreads) I feel the need to add a disclaimer. So here it is:
The books you are about to see are books that Goodreads users voted as having Newbery/Caldecott Medal potential. It’s not anything official. Just for fun.

But what I find fun is seeing how these lists will shift over the course of the year. Check out the state of these lists from the spring. Oh, there’s been some movement (mostly on the Caldecott side of things).
Let’s get started. As always, I’ll share the top five Mock Caldecott and Mock Newbery here, and you can click on the lists to see more.
First up, 2022 Mock Newbery:
Since the spring, The Lion of Mars has moved into the Top 5. Starfish and Red, White, and Whole have moved up as well.
Next up, 2022 Mock Caldecott:
A bunch of moves on the Mock Caldecott list since spring. Milo Discovers the World, Watercress, and Mell Fell have all moved into the Top 5.
What books do you have your eye on this year?
