Our 2021 Mock Caldecott Results!
Over the past month, K-3rd grade students have been reading, evaluating, and comparing some of the best picture books of the year during our 2021 Mock Caldecott unit.
Last week all 200+ students voted for the book they thought most deserved to win the Caldecott Medal.

And the winners of our 2021 Mock Caldecott voting are . . .
2021 Mock Caldecott Honor:
The Old Truck by Jarrett and Jerome Pumphrey
2021 Mock Caldecott Honor:
Lift by Minh Le, illustrated by Dan Santat
2021 Mock Caldecott Medal:
Swashby and the Sea by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal
Here’s how the voting went:
A pretty clear Medal winner this year, with two pretty clear Honor books.
Which books will win the official awards? The Caldecott (and other Youth Media Award) winners will be announced on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at 8 a.m. CT.

We had our vote today too, and our winner was Swashby and the Sea (honor books: Outside In and The Old Truck). Interestingly, the best discussions we had were about The Old Truck – there is so much to notice and talk about with that book! Can’t wait to hear the announcement on Jan 25!
