I love this Weston Woods video featuring children’s literature legend James Marshall. The story of why he stopped drawing as a kid is equal parts heartbreaking and triumphant.

I would love to see the stereotypical Indians in books he illustrated redone! George in headdress in a GEORGE AND MARTHA book and the dog in the STUPIDS books…
Thank you for posting this gem! I have always loved James Marshall, and I was so sad the day I learned that he died. He was truly gone too soon. Lucky for us that he defied that teacher and became an artist after all! He will forever make me smile.
