I think Amazon wants to get into publishing in a big way, most likely especially in the ebooks arena. I guess it’s a natural step in their quest for world domination.
They better not mess it up, is all. I mean, more than the insane YA author-reviewer kerfuffles already do. But that’s outside my purview.
