Link Du Jour: Are Hugo and Tintin Any Good?
Turning a book into a film is always a tricky proposition. The challenge? Filmmakers are trying to turn something successful and well-liked into something just as successful in an entirely different medium. It’s like when they try to turn a song into a picture book – you know how that usually works out.
It is because of this that I go into every literary film adaptation with my skepticism on high. Cue Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin (in theaters Dec. 21, 2011) and Martin Scorcese’s Hugo (in theaters Nov. 23, 2011). But early signs are pointing to both films being awesome. TIME Magazine even threw out a “masterpiece” this week in regard to Hugo. I may have to investigate.
