Alchemy and Meggy Swann by Karen Cushman.
And it’s twin…
Fly by Night by Frances Hardinge.
Side by side:
The calligraphy-esque font, the earth tones, the clothing, the, you know, geese – there’s a similarity here, right?

you may be onto something here. though i haven’t read the first book (Cushman’s)–yet, but when i saw the cover and you mention geese, i thought of ‘Fly By Night’ immediately–and then i scrolled down and saw it of course. and if i were to read based on similarity, i would have to immediately pick up Cushman’s novel because Hardinge’s was FANTASTIC.
