List: 100 Best Book Blogs?

October 29, 2009 by Travis Jonker   9 comments

Online School just posted a list of what they feel to be the 100 Best Book Blogs for Kids, Tweens, and Teens. 100 Scope Notes made the list, making me instantly skeptical of the whole operation.

But I was pleasantly surprised. A few notable omissions to be sure (Bookends and Collecting Children’s Books to name a couple), but overall a pretty nice roundup of children’s lit blogs. Do you agree? Click here to read.

Hmm, they’re missing Bookie Woogie and Comics Worth Reading. Those are two I depend on.

I’m not familiar with Bookie Woogie (I’ll have to check that out), but I agree with you on Comics Worth Reading.

Of course I agree: I’m on it. 🙂 Which, honestly, surprised me. Though it seems a bit haphazard in its collection, which makes me suspect how they chose the blogs. Besides, can you really boil this community down to 100 blogs??

Definitely not. An authoritative “best of” list would be pretty tough to compile and (like all lists) subjective as the day is long. This one left out some great stuff.

I hate to spoil the fun, but this site and a few others with similar names create lists of the top 100 of some sort of thing solely to drive traffic to their website. Some of the lists like this one are pretty well done, others are horribly misguided.

Basically it’s an elaborate and very effective scam/spam.

I was going to say the same thing as Tasha. These lists are purely for incoming links & to drive traffic to their site. In my opinion, I think it’s a scam and hate to see people get excited over them. I’ve seen similar lists on three different but very similarly named sites. These people also ask if they can guest post for you with the only requirement being a link back.

Ha – not too much fun spoiled here. I mentioned my skepticism, but I noticed a number of blogs I love on the list, so I decided to share it. I stopped myself from putting a question mark at the end of the post title when I wrote it, but I’m going to go back and do that now – upon reflection, the title might be a bit misleading. I appreciate your comments.

This was the first one of these lists I’ve seen, so thanks for sharing your experience. I suppose I wasn’t thinking about the motives of the list-makers – I’m just always anxious to direct folks to some of my favorite children’s lit blogs.

Thanks, guys. I’m feeling much better–both by 100 Scope Notes who noticed our omission and by the news that this list is questionable in creation and motive. It does have some great blogs on it and I found a few new ones to follow, but I am felling a little better about not making the list. 🙂 (http://bookends.booklistonline.com)
