Vintage Video: The Giving Tree
Did you know this existed? I can’t say I’ve ever been a big The Giving Tree aficionado, but I hadn’t seen the video below. An animated version, straight outta ’73, voiced by Shel Silverstein. Based on the man’s often-discussed spooky appearance, I thought his voice would be deeper. A little scarier perhaps.

You never heard his tapes? Our teacher played them for us. He strummed and did some of the poems from Sidewalk. It was awesome. I wonder if it’s still available? I heard him a few times on Dr. Demento, too. He did adult/drug type poems. Great voice. Of course I listened to both at around the same age. Maybe that’s what warped me…
