Video: President Obama Reads ‘Wild Things’

First of all, let me just say that Where the Wild Things Are is having the best year ever. Sales continue to be strong, there’s a film version coming out in the fall, and if Wild Things doesn’t take the top spot in A Fuse #8 Production’s Top 100 Picture Books Poll, I will eat my hat. Don’t worry, it’s wicker.

So where does Maurice Sendak’s classic go from here? How about an animated reading by the President? If you’re a regular reader of this here rambling mess of a blog, you know that Wild Things is President Obama’s favorite children’s book. It will come as no surprise then that he chose it to read aloud at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday. This much can be said: the man likes his rumpus wild.

I get tears in my eyes just watching this. Tears of joy, mind you: there’s our PRESIDENT reading aloud, reading well, enjoying kids, engaging with the KIDS, having fun, reading a book that could be a metaphor for his presidency (staring down the wild things). The secret service guy in the back ground cracked me up. He’s playing his part and getting it right. Michelle making Pres. O. show the pictures to the other side of the crowd…helping with the details.

Great way to start my day. Thanks.
