An Anti Book Banning Statistic I Want to Put on a T-shirt
The Book Whisperer herself, Donalyn Miller, started a newsletter. I was happy to see this. If you care about books and literacy, you should subscribe.
In a recent newsletter, Donalyn linked to a survey from 2022 that I missed. It was conducted by the American Library Association and was all about public sentiment toward libraries. librarians, and book bans. I found the results so encouraging I want to put them on a t-shirt.

Oh wait, I did:

(Well, I used a t-shirt mockup website to make one.)
I encourage you to check out all the results here.
Do I wish that number was 100%, or 90%? Definitely. But If I’ve learned anything from my One Star Review, Guess Who? series, it’s that there is almost no such thing as popular consensus.
But this statistic is a good reminder that although book banning voices can be loud, they are far outweighed by those who oppose them.
