Top 5 Sports Jerseys for Readers
It begins, as all things do, with a tweet from Colby Sharp:
A football jersey with the name READER on the back – a perfect marriage of sport and literacy. Of body and mind, if you will. I think this is a great idea. And it got me wondering, what other athlete jerseys would be perfect for lovers of the written word?

TOP 5 TIME!
1. D.J. Reader
No way to top this one – it’s perfect.
2. Ian Book
Ian Book (currently a backup quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs) is a close second to D.J. Reader, so this one is number two. Sadly, his only available NFL jersey is now discontinued, but you can get an Ian Book Notre Dame jersey.
3. Matt Read
Matt Read played for the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers for seven seasons. His importance to the world of literacy-related sports jerseys cannot be understated.
4. Devin Booker
Not quite as good as Book, but this is close.
5. Mo Williams
Okay, this one is more of an “If you know, you know”-type jersey. While it doesn’t scream “I love books!”, former NBA player Mo Williams’s name sounds A LOT like author/illustrator Mo Willems. That’s all.
F.Y.I.: Now that D.J. Reader has been traded to the Detroit Lions, his old Cincinnati Bengals jersey is on sale:
