Books on Film: David Sedaris Talks PRETTY UGLY with Seth Meyers

I’ve read and loved David Sedaris for years, so I was excited to see what a David Sedaris picture book might be like. Pretty Ugly (illustrated by the late Ian Falconer) came out last month and I quite like it.
In this clip, Sedaris talks with Late Night host Seth Meyers about writing the book, and about “messages” in books for kids. He DEFINITELY belittles writing children’s books (that sound you hear is the children’s book community around the country simultaneously cringing), but I also found myself agreeing a lot with his thoughts on the message stuff. Also, his joke about the Pretty Ugly royalties (admittedly, pretty dark) had me falling out of my seat laughing.
