Keeping an Eye On . . . the PEN America Book Ban Lawsuit
It’s been difficult to keep up with all the news surrounding the recent explosion in book challenges and bans. It’s overwhelmingly bad (also: sad, infuriating, and bizarre), with a tiny sprinkle of hope every now and then.
One situation that could play a key role in the future of book bans is this lawsuit filed by PEN America and Penguin Random House against a Florida school district, claiming that removal of challenged books violates First Amendment rights. Here’s hoping this case might help to stop (or at least slow) the madness.
