A Summer Newbery/Caldecott 2023 Check-In

60% of the way through 2022. Time to head over to Goodreads and have a look at their 2023 Mock Caldecott and Mock Newbery lists.

Now, should these lists be taken with a grain of salt? Yes – any Goodreads member can vote. But are they often a good place to spot books that go on to win Caldecott/Newbery hardware? Another yes.
We’ll look at the top fives here, and you can click through to see the rest of the lists on Goodreads. First up, Caldecott:
This list has shifted quite a bit from spring. There are still some late summer/fall releases from past Caldecott winners that will likely come into play on this list soon.
Okay, now on to Newbery:
This one has changed less since spring, with the same three books occupying the top three slots. But a couple notable additions: The Last Mapmaker and A Duet for Home.
