Exclusive Excerpt: APPLE OF MY PIE by Mika Song
The growth of comics has been one of my favorite developments in children’s literature over the last decade.
How do I know we’re in a good place? Last week I started a new book order for my school titled “Graphic Novels”. I realized we’ve reached a point where comics are so numerous and such high quality that I can dedicate an entire order to the format – something that just couldn’t happen until recently.

One of comics in my order is Apple of My Pie by Mika Song. It’s the sequel to the delightful Donut Feed the Squirrels, featuring Norma and Belly.
So when I got the chance to share an exclusive excerpt from the book and I took it. And what do you know – the book publishes today.
Let’s have a look.
From the publisher . . .
When local park fixture (and spy-master) Pops gets squirrel-napped, it’s up to Norma, Belly, and their friend little B to save him! This time, their adventure takes them out of the park—and into the uncharted territory of…the local apple orchard.
Where can Pops be? Will this adventure end in tragedy…or in apple pie? Or both? With these best friends on the case, you never know what’s coming next—but you can be sure there will be friends and delicious foods along the way.
