Now that the Newbery and Caldecott medals have been handed out, how are the winners faring on the New York Times bestseller lists?
First up, Caldecott winner Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall:
It hit the list last week at #8. This week, it fell off, but that may be because copies became scarce after all the copies in stores were snatched up. I’ll be checking to see if it returns after the next print run.
And now for Merci Suárez Changes Gears by Meg Medina:
It went to the second slot last week. This week it went to #3. Here’s hoping it sticks around for a long time.
Travis, do you have any actual numbers of copies sold in those bumps, for this year or other years? I’ve heard (in conversations) of publishers going back to print for anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000, but can’t recall ever seeing that discussed in print.
