2016 Books from Caldecott Winners
Studies (conducted in my head) have shown that there are a whole lot of illustrators who have won a Caldecott Medal or Honor more than once. Take the most recent awards – there were two winners who had been there before (Henkes and Collier).

Therefore it might be handy to take a look at 2016 books by past Caldecott Medal and Honor winners. Lotta talent on this list. Plenty to keep an eye on…
If I missed any, let me know in the comments.

These are always among my favorite blog posts of the year. So essential for us Newbery/Caldecott obsessed people. 🙂

Thanks, Jonathan – I think this is the third year I’ve done this post, and I’m always amazed at how many past winners have new books coming out.

Great list! Denise Fleming also has Five Little Ducks coming in the fall. There is also a new Marla Frazee coming in the fall (The Bossier Baby), Patrick McDonnell has Tek, Jerry Pinkney has The Christmas Boot, Erin Stead has The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles, … (Did E.B. Lewis win a Caldecott? I can’t remember, but he has Preaching to the Chickens)…. That’s all I know about! 🙂
Travis Jonker says
Thanks, Dylan! I added these to the post.

This is one helluva list, Travis! I bookmarked it ’cause I don’t want to miss any, so thank you for that 🙂 There are SO many I want to see! And I can’t tell you how ridiculously excited I am about RETURN! 😀

So fun, Travis. Great job. Makes me happy I’m not swamped serving on a book jury this year, so I can find time to enjoy all of these as they come out.
BTW, Kevin Henkes (who as you know recently received his 3rd Caldecott recognition) has just published When Spring Comes, co-created with Laura Dronzek (HarperCollins 2016). Thanks and keep it up!
Emily says
Thank you Travis for such a great list!
Jill Swanson says
Wow! Incredible line up! What a gift to have so much to look forward to! Thanks, Travis.

Great roundup!
Sam Bloom says
I LOVED Bloom, and not just because of my last name. David Small is a genius!
Also, I believe you left off a Christian Robinson-illustrated book; isn’t he doing Margaret Wise Brown’s The Dead Bird, too?
Travis Jonker says
I haven’t read BLOOM yet! Yeah, I wasn’t sure to include The Dead Bird or not – I guess I was seeing the list as Caldecott-eligible titles
Sam Bloom says
Isn’t that one Caldecott-eligible? Does the previously released text effect eligibility if the illustrations themselves are brand new? Hmmmm…
Travis Jonker says
Looking more closely at the Caldecott criteria, I think you’re right, Sam. It seems eligible from my reading of the criteria
Sam Bloom says
Nice! The more Christian Robinson the better, I say.
Beth says
Oh wow, thanks so much for all of your work put into this list! Really excited to read these books. There are some great teams on this list!
