Books on Film: HOW I MADE IT with Phil Stead

There are two things that always make me stop when I’m flipping channels. Ocean’s Eleven (to rewatch for the 103rd time) and How It’s Made on the Discovery Channel.
So when I learned that picture book maker extraordinaire Philip Stead started a video series showing how he makes his artwork, I was excited – only slightly less excited than if I learned that he was forming a crew of eleven highly skilled criminals to rob the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas.

But close.
Watch below and learn how Stead made the art for his latest book, In My Garden by Charlotte Zolotow. It’s interesting and funny and there’s some great soothing ukulele music in the background.
And in other Philip Stead-related news, the author/illustrator is taking part in a virtual author event with Ann Arbor’s Literati book store on Saturday, April 4. Click here to learn more.
