Your Fall 2020 Newbery/Caldecott “Hey, Keep an Eye Out” Lists
From time to time, I like to see what’s happening on the Mock Newbery and Caldecott lists over on Goodreads. What with Heavy Medal and Calling Caldecott in full swing, ’tis the season, right?
Are these lists in any way official? Nope. Just interested readers voting for the books they think might take home the awards. So consider these books you might want to keep an eye on.

Hi Travis — I think that “Planting Stories” is ineligible for Caldecott because the illustrator lives in Bogota, Columbia. I do love the art, though!

Thanks for this, Karen! Goes to show how these lists from Goodreads should be taken with a grain of salt

Hi Travis,
I would like to speak up for the Newbery and Caldecott groups (and lists), on Goodreads. Once in awhile a picture book we do like very much gets onto the list of group favorites or hopefuls. It was noted within the Caldecott group that the amazing Planting Stories doesn’t qualify as a contender. Most of our members are booksellers, librarians, teachers, authors, illustrators and other literary professionals. We read as much as we can even though we are a pretty busy bunch, to provide our reviews to other group members and the Goodreads community. Our wonderful Newbery and Caldecott groups do know and love our kids lit!
