ALA Annual: Some Things I’m Excited About

The other day the editors at SLJ put together a great roundup of things they’re excited about at the upcoming American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington D.C. They gave me all sorts of good ideas.
Here are a few additional things I’m looking forward to this weekend.

Interviews for The Yarn Podcast
ALA is always a time when we get a lot of interviews recorded for future episode of The Yarn. This year I’ll be talking with Dan Santat, Mitali Perkins, Oge Mora, Grace Lin, and more. While most of the interviews will happen in a closed conference room, there is one I hope you can check out:

On Sunday night, Meg Medina will accept her 2019 Newbery Medal. On Monday morning, I’ll interview her on the Pop Top Stage.
AASL Best Websites/Apps
Saturday @ 1:00pm (websites), Saturday @ 2:30 (apps). I work in a K-4 (next year K-3) school library and these annual list of resources are always something I look forward to.
Coretta Scott King Awards Breakfast
Sunday @ 7:00am. Last year was the first year I attended the annual Coretta Scott King Breakfast (where the 2019 CSK winners accept their awards), and it was fantastic. This year is extra special, as it is the 50th anniversary of the award.
Newbery/Caldecott/Legacy Banquet
Sunday @ 6:00pm. Of course!
