Sad news. As you likely have heard by now, author E.L. Konigsburg has passed away at the age of 83. Winner of two Newbery Medals and one Newbery Honor, her books have lived on like few do. School Library Journal remembers her here.

PLACE YOUR BETS – EISNER NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
Nominees for the biggest awards in the comics world have just been announced. The Early Readers category could be renamed the TOON award, as three of the five nominees are TOON books. Among the Early Readers and Kids categories, there are three titles I haven’t read – Kitty & Dino, Cow Boy, and Crogan’s Loyalty – gotta love a few surprises. The winners will be announced July 19. This made my day. Nonfiction Detectives blogger and school librarian Cathy Potter went and made a Sibert Medal infographic based on my Newbery and Caldecott attempts. Here’s hoping this leads to every ALSC award getting similar treatment. Click the image below to check it out.
