Exclusive: ‘When You Reach Me’ Prequel Announced!

In an unexpected move, sources are reporting that this summer will see the release of a prequel to 2010 Newbery winner When You Reach Me. Here’s the exclusive cover reveal:

The publisher is being tight-lipped about the book, but an anonymous source says it will “do what the first book failed to do with all its critical and popular success – tap into just about every hot trend in children’s literature”. Rumors of a paranormal romance, online video clips readers must access to learn key plot points, Li’l Wayne references, and a guest appearance by the cast of iCarly have been circulating.

The cover itself is an amalgam of a number of popular cover trends, including socks, converse sneakers, butterflies, and disembodied legs. “My only disappointment is that we couldn’t figure out a way to make the character on the cover sitting in a tree.” a source involved in the cover design lamented.

“The first book did well, but this one is going to ‘get jiggy'”, said a source close to the book.

Hm….Li’l Wayne references circa April 1,1976? I’d suggest Stevie Nicks, myself. Though that mother would be too cool for Fleetwood Mac. Abba? Nah.The Bee Gee? Hell, no. As a young adult then I could say maybe Paul Simon (50 Ways To Leave Your Lover). More likely Grateful Dead or the Stones.

    Nice job:)

As I understand it, it’s a prequel yet it takes place in 2012. At least that’s what completely unreliable anonymous sources are saying.

My favorite part was reading the blog post title in my RSS reader and getting SOOO excited (WYRM is possibly my all time fave book). Everything after that was hilarious, but utterly disappointing. In other words, a nearly perfect AFD prank.

    Love it!

I read this pre-coffee and actually got chest pains until I hit the iCarly bit and went, “Wait a minute…” Good one!

Too funny! Couldn’t figure out how a prequel would work, but was so excited to read the first chapter. Thanks for a good laugh this morning!
