Two things I did not know about Beverly Cleary’s Ramona Quimby series before listening to NPR’s recent piece on the topic:

1. Ramona is based on a real girl. Who ate a pound of butter.

2. There’s a Beverly Cleary Elementary School in Portland, Oregon. How many children’s book authors have schools named after them?

Whether you’re going to see the Ramona and Beezus movie or not (click here to read the positive Horn Book review of the film), you can click the play button below to head to NPR and listen to the entire segment.

Poet/author David L. Harrison (blogging at http://davidlharrison.worpress.com) also has an elementary school named after him. Pretty coooooool.
